This family originated in the Mullafarry Parish in the civil Parish of Ballysakeery, County of Mayo, Ireland. James had a son James who, according to Government of Canada records immigrated to Canada in 1846 and settled in Adelaide, Middlesex, Ontario. He married Ann Brown in 1855, rumour has it the Brown’s were family friends back in Ireland.

James and Ann had several children, of which four came out west and settled around Lumsden, Saskatchewan. These four were Thomas James (married Elizabeth Shelly or Kelly), Amy (married Thomas Sutton), George William (married Minnie Tegart), and Joseph (married Mary Gemmell who died in childbirth, then married Mary Catherine Binnie). There is record that a brother John Alexander (1866-1925) lived out west in this area but I do not have any other information on him.

As indicated, Joseph married Mary Binnie, who’s mother was an Arneil. Two of their children, James Albert (and Grace) married into the Catley family, so I am following that family as well. I’m also following the Milliken family, for Evelyn Catley’s mother was Elizabeth Milliken. Or whatever other family fits into this family group.

If you are a relative of this family I would be happy to connect.
